OFOB Grant Awardees Announced!
Searching for new partners to collaborate with, we have since received applications from many inspiring bodies that, similarly to us, are committed to youth development, ensuring children and young people are part of the solutions addressing the drivers of violence in our communities. After a tough deliberation, we are excited to move forward with five new partners that will implement initiatives targeting young people between the ages of 10 to 25 in Church End, Stonebridge, and Chalkhill from October 2023 to April 2024.
They are as follows:
- Hillside Performing Arts
“Inspire young people in our community.”
Hillside Performing Arts believes in the development of young people within the performance art sector. The organisation aims to master technique creativity and expression whilst working hard and boosting the confidence of young individuals.
- Jason Robert Foundation (JRF)
“Offering an opportunity for young people to be heard.”
JRF is a sport for development charity delivering a programme of wrap-around support – mentoring, life skills, education, and training. JRF provides opportunities and promotes exercise and team games to young people, including those at risk, and those with physical and learning disabilities.
- Start Easy & Phoenix Rising
“Explore the importance of connecting with our roots and understanding different cultures.”
Start Easy is a social enterprise working in the social economy, mainstreaming human rights, sustainable development, and gender equality. The organisation responds to socio-economic and cultural requests, empowering individuals and organisations to reach their potential and develop self-sustainability through network-building and resource-sharing.
- Unique Community
“Supporting children and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds through the arts.”
Unique Community delivers inclusive and accessible arts activities to people from primarily disadvantaged backgrounds. The organisation aims to improve mental health and well-being by reducing social isolation, exploring challenging subject matters to build resilience, and empowering people with tangible skills that can be used to better navigate the challenges they face.
- Let’s Unite
“Enhance the lives of children and young people with SEND.”
Let’s Unite bridges the societal disconnect around the complex and challenging issue of disability by actively safeguarding vulnerable communities from risks of harm, isolation, and neglect. The organisation provides support, resources, and advocacy, improving awareness, understanding, and acceptance of autism spectrum disorder.
One Flow One Brent is excited to make a greater impact on the lives of young people in the tri-estate and influence further positive changes within the wider communities in Brent through these new partnerships. From educational workshops enhancing employability skills, sessions about mental health, special needs, and inclusion awareness, to sports, arts, and other recreational activities, OFOB and its new partners will engage and educate young people on how to safely live in their environment while building stronger community networks.
"I'm thrilled to start working with our new awardees,” says Zorka Keszthelyi, Project Support Officer at the Young Brent Foundation (YBF). “It was a tough competition as we had very strong applications, but the successful candidates stood out to me because they each bring fresh ideas to One Flow.”
“Together, we're rolling out an exciting line-up of services, including arts programmes, weekend adventures, family support, and dedicated assistance for young people with special educational needs – all set to empower Brent’s youth," Zorka adds.
