What
Soil is everywhere and available for all, but rarely understood or taught It supports/enables the growth of plants and therefore plays a key role in food production. Understanding this vital resource is crucial to maintaining healthy soils and food supply for society as a whole. This project aims to: Enable children aged 7+ and their families, from currently under-represented minority groups, to learn about soils in Brent.’s natural spaces. Facilitate children and their families to access scientific knowledge to broaden their perspectives towards those natural spaces available to them in Brent’s: allotments, parks, reserves, community gardens. Provide ongoing opportunities for young people to take ownership of under-used green spaces in Brent. Empower young people to make good choices about caring for their mental and physical health through meaningful knowledge of open-air activities, food production and diet. Transform young people’s perceptions, attitudes, values, aspirations and behaviour towards their scientific capabilities (scientific capital). Encourage young people to share their discovery experiences through different medias with members of the public. Provide information of how the community interacts with natural heritage organisations so these groups can achieve representation and become central to the way organisations work. Inspire young girls to pursue STEM related careers through the delivery of sessions in the field. by expert female scientistsOrganiser
