About Organisation

NUMBER CHAMPIONS

Our volunteers support primary school children in numeracy.

We currently partner with over 30 state primary schools across London, including three schools in Brent, where our trained volunteers run weekly one-to-one sessions for six- and seven-year-olds in need of support in numeracy. Improving their maths at this age can increase the child’s self-esteem and help them achieve their educational potential.

Our volunteers use maths games and other creative activities to make the sessions fun and engaging so that each child gains in confidence and is inspired to learn. Sessions are face to face in school, during school hours but outside the classroom, and a volunteer will work with each child for the full school year.

As well as giving volunteers initial training we provide extensive online resources, and throughout the year the volunteers have access to one-to-one support from experienced teachers.

Evaluations by class teachers show strong evidence that the children we work with engage more in maths lessons and improve their skills.

We support the wide diversity of London children and we welcome volunteers from all backgrounds. The main requirement is a desire to help young children succeed in life.
