Standing Firm in Power and Pride this Black History Month
Standing Firm in Power and Pride this Black History Month
Join us at the Grand Hall, Brent Civic Centre for an evening of celebration, strength, and unity during Black History Month. Together we’ll honour Black history, culture, and achievements through inspiring music, dance, theatre, and powerful discussion.
To set the tone, Phoenix Rising will welcome guests with the uplifting sounds of steel pan.
The evening will open with a warm welcome from TV presenter and host Aaron Bridgeman, followed by an address from the Deputy Leader of Brent Council, Councillor Mili Patel. We will then hear the story of how Black History Month UK began, told by its founder, journalist and activist Akyaaba Addai-Sebo, in conversation with broadcaster Rosemary Laryea.
Performances will include a musical journey through the history of Black music from Darae Palmer, an expressive dance showcase by the young talents of Hillside Performing Arts, and a powerful theatre piece on Malcolm X, coordinated by cultural producer and advocate Rachel Victor-Sampson.
At the heart of the evening, a panel discussion on the theme of “Power” will bring together influential voices including Dawn Butler MP for Brent East and entrepreneur and community leader Anita Whittaker, alongside educators and local leaders.
The event will close with reflections from our host, leaving space for connection, celebration, and pride. And of course—free food will be available for all guests.
Don’t miss this uplifting celebration of heritage, culture, and collective strength!
