John Lyon’s Charity Main Grants Fund

The Main Grants Fund is easily the most popular Fund awarded by John Lyon’s Charity. It delivers many opportunities such as contributions towards salary costs; direct project funding, apprenticeship prospects or general overheads to ensure the lights remain on.

Whilst there is no maximum grant amount, a typical Main Grant is £20,000-£30,000 per annum for three years, though the Charity has funded many excellent projects and initiatives for both higher and lower amounts.

The Main Grant Application Process
  • Applications are considered by the Grants Committee and approved by the Foundation Governors (the Trustee) three times a year in March, June and November.
  • There is no maximum grant amount but you should apply only for what you need, supported by your budget. Grants are monitored on an annual basis and after 12 months for one-off grants.
  • All eligible organisations are free to apply to the Main Grants Fund. However, it may be necessary for the Charity to recommend applying to another Fund if more appropriate.
How To Apply

When applying for a Main Grant, we operate a two-stage application process.  Please note that it takes at least six months for the application process to be completed, so please bear in mind when your project is due to take place and apply in plenty of time.

If you are unsure as to whether you are eligible, please read the Grant Policies and check the Eligibility Tracker before going any further.
