New partnership with Slenky!
Today, on World Youth Skills Day 2022, Young Brent Foundation is pleased to announce its new partnership with Slenky, designed to help young people to connect with brands and businesses, and access valuable opportunities.
Slenky is a mobile app that enables young people aged 13- 24 to search and find opportunities - also called ‘Shots’ - related to their passions and skills. Slenky places organisations in Brent and across the UK at the fingertips of young people – taking brands and businesses to young people where they are, as media-rich social content.
This announcement builds on work from Young Brent Foundation’s, ‘One Flow One Brent’ programme, which tackles the drivers of violence across three Brent estates: Chalkhill, Church End and Stonebridge. Through events and workshops, the programme also supports the upskilling of young residents - offering a range of activities to support and help young people network, find meaningful opportunities, and work experiences.
The Young Brent Foundation and Slenky partnership will focus on:
- Increasing access to jobs and opportunities for young people from Brent, working closely with young people from Chalkhill, Church End and Stonebridge
- Building capacity for community organisations by supporting Young Brent Foundation members to create Slenky hubs and become more socially accessible to local young people
- Partnering with young people on youth-led campaigns and content
This collaboration will leverage insights on employability needs and trends from Slenky and Young Brent Foundation’s youth voice groups, to remove barriers for young people exploring career options and navigating the world of work. The invitation to local grassroots organisations to play a key role in this process will help build and enhance understanding of how to engage young people and improve collaboration with employers.
Chris Murray, CEO, Young Brent Foundation said: ‘Another great local partnership developed in Brent for the young people of Brent. Slenky, has proven to be a successfully cutting-edge company in the space of linking opportunities to talent. We are proud to be working with Cec Richards (who grew up on Chalkhill estate) and his team. The young people from across the One Flow One Brent catchment area will truly benefit from this approach’.
Dami Fajobi said: ‘One Flow One Brent is a great programme - and their current Steering Group opportunity for young people, is a perfect example of a meaningful and valuable opportunity - it’s exactly why we’re excited to be working with Young Brent Foundation. ‘Creating spaces for young people to share their voice and shape their communities,’ is a mission we can get behind here at Slenky.’
